Our goal is to give Colorado Arts organizations the opportunity to move toward accessibility for all people.

arts & accessibility education

The Arts & Accessibility Workshop Series is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of your community.

The objective of these workshops is to provide practical guidance on ways to make access considerations an integral part of the arts in Colorado.

Workshops can be designed from ½ day to 2 days.

Choose your workshop session topic

  • Accessible Programming: How you can incorporate and utilize audio description, shadowing, touching galleries, and interpretation.

  • Adaptive Technologies: Overview of current best practices and advancements in accessible web design and communication devices.

  • Live Accessible Performance: How can your event, show, or visual art exhibit be accessible.

  • Basic Overview of 504/ADA Compliance: Title III of the ADA requires public accommodations to provide goods and services to people with disabilities on an equal basis with the rest of the general public.  The goal is to afford every individual the opportunity to benefit from the patronage of all Americans.  This session will explore the nuts and bolts of the ADA, and how it affects the way we do business.

  • Accessible Exhibit Design: What makes an exhibit really accessible?  Exhibit designs that result from Universal Design Techniques are more likely to serve a wider array of people:  individuals who have temporary disabilities, people with permanent disabilities, and those whose abilities change with age.  Techniques used include tactile, olfactory and auditory components to exhibits.

  • Accessibility and Historic Preservation: Providing accessibility for people with disabilities in our historic buildings, sites and structures is an important and challenging task.  To balance accessibility and historic preservation mandates, how do owners of historic properties provide the greatest level of accessibility without threatening the features that make the property significant?

  • Small-Group Participatory Workshops:  Choose to explore one aspect of a given topic more in-depth.
