Mikelle Learned
Access Gallery Artist since 2023
Open for Commissions
Mikelle started making bracelets after she graduated high school because she fell in love with fashion and wanted to create her own fashionable designs. Bracelets became her main form of art for a while, it helped her make money and helped her make friends with people in the community! People often are left with so much love and warmth after mikelle shares apart of herself. Her bracelets became a symbol of her abilities, kindness, talent, and eye for color.
Around COVID, I introduced her to painting and the idea that she can personalize her stuff with the things she loves.
After that, she has been non-stop with ideas adding embellishments to her collection of Fanny packs, custom designs her own phone cases, and her wheelchair!
She is so inspired by being an access gallery artist and loves to use the studio as a place to paint, discover beautiful color combinations, and make life long friendships.

Mikelle's Art
Artist Statement
Hello, I am Mikelle!
I am a Denver Native and grew up in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
I love to make art! It makes me happy, gives me energy, and makes me feel more connected to myself and others.
My favorite things to create right now are fanny packs, phone cases, bracelets, and painting with colors that match my spirit. I especially love rainbows, dogs, the Broncos, the American flag, and Minnie Mouse.
The things I create for myself are usually to better represent myself, but also to make it easier for me to use the things I use on a daily basis. For example, I add collected keychains onto my purse zippers so I can open the pockets easier.
I am always inspired, and find it hard to stop thinking about new ideas. I use photos and special memories from growing up to choose what to create. I come up with all of my ideas and get the help from Maryann and my other caregivers to help my ideas come to life.
Overall, art makes it easier for me to interact with the world and shows others who I am. People think I am awesome!
